I truly enjoy being a Mi’kmaw nurse because it allows me to provide culturally competent care to my fellow community members. As a nurse with an Indigenous cultural background, I have a deep and profound understanding of how our environments and relationships directly affect health outcomes.

This knowledge enables me to approach care with a holistic perspective, taking into account not just physical health, but also emotional, spiritual, and community well-being. Graduating from nursing school has opened a myriad of both professional and personal opportunities for me. I have had the privilege to serve the people of Mi’kma’ki in a professional capacity, which has allowed me to connect with my community in meaningful ways.

Additionally, this journey has deepened my understanding of community and the Creator’s will, further strengthening my sense of purpose. It has not only improved my professional practice but has also enriched my personal growth, allowing me to contribute to my community’s health while honouring my culture and spirituality.
