In 2007, after returning home from Afghanistan, where I served as a medic with the Canadian Armed Forces, I met with the director of nursing at StFX.
After that meeting, she walked me to the admissions office and asked the staff to help me apply. I was accepted into the Bachelor of Science in Nursing program in 2008. I faced many challenges due to undiagnosed learning differences and mental health issues and had to take several leaves of absence to address these struggles. Finally, in 2014, I completed the program.
I am deeply grateful to everyone who supported me academically and emotionally, guiding me through the tough times. Without their help, I wouldn’t be where I am today.
